The School of Education
offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses leading to Qualified
Teacher Status.
If you wish to train to teach in the Primary school, or to
teach Mathematics, Science, ICT or Design and Technology in the Secondary
school, whatever your qualifications, we have the course for you.

Other Courses
One year full-time, or two
years part-time.
A course that enables mature
students to gain a qualification that meets the entry requirements for the
two year secondary ITT degree courses.
The course runs for one day per week for fifteen weeks beginning in
February. This is an opportunity to update an existing teaching
qualification and prepare for return to teaching in a primary school or
move from secondary to primary school teaching.

Prepare to Teach

A
‘taster’ course for those considering secondary teaching as a
career. The course offers flexible start and finish time, a short school placement , a school facilitator and tutor support.
At the end of the course
participants should know whether they are temperamentally suited to be
teachers and whether there are any gaps in their subject knowledge.
The subjects
currently offered are:
Mathematics, Science,
Modern Foreign Languages, Design and Technology, Cymraeg.

Taster
Days
The School of Education

taster days. These are held three times a year, once in each academic term.

The School of Education Profile
Since 1914 there has been a teacher training establishment at
the Caerleon Campus. Originally the Monmouthshire Training College catering for
males only until 1962 when female students were admitted. Many thousands of
teachers from all over the world have been trained at the School of
Education.
The School is located in attractive, landscaped grounds on
the Caerleon Campus. It has a friendly atmosphere, good facilities and a
real sense of a safe and supportive community. The School benefits from a
range of teaching rooms and facilities, including a design and technology
workshop, new computer suites, science laboratories, a library and learning
resource centre, and a modern sports centre.
The School maintains a very strong relationship with its
partnership schools, and trains members of staff from these institutions as
mentors to ensure a wide breadth and depth of support is provided for
students on placements.
Teaching is a challenging, satisfying and fulfilling career
and our academically and professionally qualified tutors provide students
with high quality teaching and support in preparation for their future
careers.
Whilst operating within the distinctiveness of the Welsh
education and training sphere, the School is sensitive and responsive to
the changing educational environment in the UK and beyond.

have an enviable record of obtaining teaching posts.

University Profile
The University’s Caerleon campus is situated just off
junction 25 of the M4, 4 miles from Newport City Centre, with convenient
transport links to nearby Cardiff and Bristol. Caerleon
itself is situated in a scenic, riverside location, and is famous for its
Roman history, with Roman baths, legionary, barracks and amphitheatre.
Students studying in Caerleon find it to be a lively, friendly town.
On campus there is an excellent new sports centre with a
